In the 1960’s, Andreas and Matina immigrated from Greece and made North Vancouver their home. Their passion for food, Andreas’ extensive knowledge of meats, putting the finest butchers to shame, and Matina’s famous family recipes of sauces, desserts, and of course, that great loaf of bread passed down from her mother, motivated them to open their first restaurant in 1984. Together, they brought high quality, savoury flavours, and authentic Greek traditions to the North Shore.
A fundamental Greek custom is that of showing friendship to guests, and the Ancient Greek concept of hospitality is “filoxenia”, translated as hospitality, generosity and courtesy shown to guests. With their strong Greek traditions, Andreas and Matina aimed to create a welcoming and comfortable restaurant for families and friends, for parties and celebrations, where all customers could relax and enjoy the pleasures of good food, wine and company.
